Daugavpils University (DU) is situated in south-east part of Latvia. It was founded in 1921 and today is the second biggest state university in Eastern-Latvia. It has five faculties, 4185 full-time and part-time students who study in bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programmes. The DU Faculty of Education and Management Studies has established the Institute of Sustainable Education, which plays a key role in the country and the Baltic region. It publishes the Journal of Teacher Education for Sustainability, an international peer-reviewed journal launched as a tool for local and global networking. Several international conferences focusing on ESD have been organized. The general focus of the Faculty is on the issue of re-orienting education towards sustainable development in the Baltic and Black sea region and currently has partners for research, projects and academic publishing in 33 countries (in Europe, North and South America, Australia, Africa, and Asia).
