Costas Kadis

kadisCostas Kadis is the Head of the Nature Conservation Unit, Associate Professor and Dean of the School of Education at Frederick University. He graduated from the Department of Biology - University of Athens in 1991 and received a PhD from the same Department in 1995. Prof. Kadis attended other post graduate courses, in Greece and the USA, in the fields of "Teaching in Natural Sciences", "Mediterranean Landscape Ecology" and "Approaches to the administration of publicly funded scientific research in the USA". He worked at the University of Athens as a postgraduate and postdoctoral researcher. In 1998 he joined the Research Promotion Foundation of Cyprus and he served the Foundation from the positions of the Officer, First Officer, Head of Unit and Deputy Director General. In 2005 he joined the faculty of Frederick University and established the Nature Conservation Unit. Since then he has coordinated numerous research projects led by the Unit. Prof. Kadis has been among the authors of books and scientific articles, published in international journals and proceedings of professional conferences. Moreover, his published work includes several book chapters, research reports and studies on biodiversity conservation and education for the environment. He has been member of several scientific committees in the fields of Research and Environment, in Cyprus and abroad. Prof. Kadis served as Minister of Health of the Republic of Cyprus from July 2007 to February 2008.


Aravella Zachariou

aravelaAravella Zachariou is head of the Environmental Education Unit of Cyprus Pedagogical Institute and she is also a lecturer in environmental education and education for sustainable development at the Frederick University and at National and Kapodistrian University in Greece. Her research involves the integration of education for environment and sustainable development in formal and non-formal education as well as in teacher education. Her research work is published in international scientific journals for environmental education and also, presented in international and worldwide conferences. She is participating in international organizations and networks for Environmental Education and Education for Sustainable Development (e.x. MIO, ENSI), as well as in UNECE steering Committee. She is the author of the book “Environmental Education and National Curriculum: Theoretical framework and Principles in Cyprus Primary Education” and Co-author of the book “Sustainable Development Issues in Education”.


Dr Chrysanthi Kadji-Beltran

xrisanthiDr Chrysanthi Kadji-Beltran is an assistant professor and researcher at FrederickUniversity, Schoolof Education, Primary Education Department. She teaches Education for the Environment and Sustainable Development (ESD) in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Her research concerns the promotion of ESD within teacher education. She explores ways of empowering teachers’ competencies and raising their self efficacy so as to effectively implement ESD and develop sustainable schools within the framework of formal education. Dr Kadji has participated in various research projects and her work has been presented in international conferences and published in international journals.


Dr Kyriacos Charalambous

kyriacosDr Kyriacos Charalambous has got a Teaching Diploma from the Pedagogical Academy of Cyprus and a BEd from the University of Athens, Greece. He complicated his Master in Computer Education, and his PhD in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Education at the Birmingham University in Britain in 2001. The topic of his research was “An Investigation of the Provision of ICT In-Service Education and Training for Cypriot Primary Teachers”. He also got a postgraduate diploma in Research Methods in Education from the same university. At present he works as an Assistant Professor of ICT in Education, in the School of Education at the Frederick University in Cyprus. He has broad professional experience working with educators and other educational personnel in Cyprus on the implementation of ICT in: teaching and learning; educational administration and management; teachers´ in-service training; e-learning and ICT in environmental studies. He has written 12 research papers for refereed journals and published more than 35 research papers in the proceedings of scientific conferences.


Dr. Panayiotis Louca

Dr. Panayiotis Louca is a Scientific Associate at Frederick University since September 2011. He holds a B.Ed. in Primary Education (1998) and he is a certified teacher with substantial teaching experience. He also holds an M.Sc. in Educational Research from the University of Manchester (2000) and a Science Education from the University of Cyprus (2010).His doctoraldissertationdealt with the factors involved in on-line argumentation ability of undergraduate student teachers for scientific and socioscientific issues. He has also served as a researcher in the Evaluation Committee of Private Universities of the Republic of Cyprus where he was coordinating external quality assurance and accreditation procedures. Dr. Louca is currently teaching research methodology courses for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of study. His researchinterests liein the areas of scientific argumentation and the factors influencing argumentation ability, innovative data elicitation techniques and quality assurance in higher education.
