Vassilios Makrakis


Vassilios Makrakis has graduated from the University of Athens, Greece, Concordia University, Canada, and Stockholm University, Sweden, from where he got his Ph.D. degree. He is currently Professor of ICT in Education with particular reference to Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) at the Department of Primary Education, University of Crete. He holds a UNESCO Chair in the field of ICT in ESD and is the
Head of the RCE (Regional Centre of Expertise) Crete on ESD. Prof. Makrakis has been granted a Research Fellowship by the Japan Foundation and was associated with the National Institute of Educational Research of Japan (1989-90). In 1993-94 he was also granted a Canon Foundation Fellowship and was associated with Hiroshima University, Japan. He has been involved in many national and international projects mostly as project leader dealing with global education, e-learning, ICT teacher capacity building and reorienting university curricula to address sustainability. He is cooperating with a wide network of academic and research scholars on issues related to ICTs in Education and Education for Sustainable Development. Professor Makrakis is a resource person for UNESCO, Ministries of Education, local governments and NGOs. He has written six books and more than 200 scientific articles published in conference proceedings, international journals and collective books.


 

Nelly Kostoulas-Makrakis

 

Nelly Kostoulas-Makrakis has graduated from the Department of English Studies, University of Athens and continued her Master and Ph.D studies at the University of Stockholm, Sweden. Currently, she is Assistant Professor at the Primary Education, University of Crete, Greece. She has also worked at the Department of Mediterranean Studies, University of the Aegean as well as the Zayed University, United Arab Emirates. Her teaching and research interests focus on pedagogy and education for sustainable development. She has been the author of three books and several articles in international journals. Nelly Kostoulas-Makrakis is responsible for promoting of Earth Charter in the area of education in Greece (earthcharterhellas.edc.uoc.gr).


 

Michael G. Kleisarchakis

 

Michael G.. Kleisarchakis holds a degree from the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Sciences, University of Crete (1990-1995). Also he is holder of a postgraduate qualification (diploma) at the Greek Open University degree in Distance Learning (2001) and a postgraduate course (Master) entitled "Studies in Education" at the Greek Open University (2008) specializing in Mobile-Learning applications. Currently, he is a PhD student in the Department of Primary Education in the University of Crete working on a thesis dealing with domain online virtual communities of practice and education for sustainable development.


 

Nikos Larios


Nikos Larios holds a BA in Automation Engineer of the TEI of Piraeus and an M.Ed in ICT in Education of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Currently, he is a Ph.D. student at the Dept. of Primary education, University of Crete, working on a thesis in the field of ICT, Climate Change Education and Education for Sustainable Development. He is also a network administrator at the University of Athens responsible for the installation, operation and upgrade of network services and the smooth operation of the technical infrastructure. His expertise is in multimedia design and software development for both educational and research purposes.


 

Gregory Kanakousakis

 

Gregory Kanakousakis has studied applied mathematics and he is a profes­sional web developer, experienced in Adobe Flash, for more than 3 years. By having the knowledge of Ac­tionScript2, PHP, HTML and JavaScript, has been involved in various types of Flash applications and websites, from static banners to fully dynamic web interfaces.
